Beyond Light

Thank you for landing here in the dark with me. The images and thoughts you will find here have arisen from my artistic practice, akin to a ritual practice. A ritual in being-with the dark, with processes of emergence, and coming into being.

As we enter the cave without a light, we move slowly, allowing our bodies to sense the way, our eyes adjust, and the phenomena around us begin to reveal themselves. They reveal themselves in their own time, resisting all attempts to be prematurely known, categorized, and grasped.

You see, in the dark subject and object collapse. Boundaries between self and other blur, center and periphery merge.

Can we breathe here, allowing for the possibility of all that may lie hidden in the shadows? Quietly whispering, “Yes, you too belong”.

In my studio, I sit with the dark, again and again, looking into the darkened piece of paper, waiting patiently for forms to emerge. As my eyes adjust and I ‘scrye’ into the darkness images take shape, piece by piece.

With every image I whisper, “Yes, you too belong”.
